Hobby
Shops in Strange Places XV:
X’cit
Kids Land in Namba Osaka
Location: Osaka, Namba (Nihonbashi) Down the
street from Hobix (see HSISP XIV in last month’s issue)
Description: Railroad, R/C, diecast cars, toys,
and plastic kits of all genres, except for Gundam kits (Gundam kits are sold at
their specialty store, Gundams, located around the block.). Selection is better
than Hobix. Lots of photo etch and metal accessories for "scale"
kits, plastic accessories for the Gundam crowd. Lots of tools and materials
too. 20% off all merchandise. Located on the second floor. Consumer electronics
are on the ground floor.
Pros: 20% discount. Good selection of kits,
tools, materials, and accessory parts for all genres.
Cons: No exotic kits. Garage kits selection is
small and limited to sci-fi.
Analysis: X’cellent shop for all
"normal" modeling needs.

To Get There: X’cit is a mere four blocks away from Hobix and Volks. Just
continue down the street on the same side as Hobix. You can’t miss it! For the
Gundam crowd, X’cit has a sister shop around the corner called Gundam’s. Here
is a photo of Dean with a Gundam figure outside of the shop, but at least ya’ll
know how to get there.
There are a lot more shops we could have visited here in the Namba area,
but due to our wishy-washy natures (Do I get this kit or this kit?) we ran out
of time. Perhaps in a future club trip to Osaka we can explore this area
further.
